Edit your note

3-min read · Edit a section directly, change the whole note with Magic Edit, fill in missing doses, or regenerate the note.

Written by Bryce Blackwell

You can change anything in your note before you send it. Edit a section directly, or describe the change and let Magic Edit rewrite the note for you.

The Note tab of a visit, showing the finished note with the Magic Edit toolbar above it and the code bar at the bottom.

Note: Notes can't be edited while they're still generating, or after they've been sent to athena.

Edit a section

  1. On the Note tab, hover over a section and click the pencil, or double-click the text.

  2. Make your change.

  3. Click Save (or press ⌘/Ctrl + Enter). Click Cancel (or press Esc) to discard it.

Change the whole note with Magic Edit

  1. Click Magic Edit in the toolbar above the note.

The Magic Edit button in the toolbar above the note.
  2. Describe what you want in Tell Matic what to change in this note…, or click the mic to dictate it.

The Magic Edit panel, with the box where you describe the change (1) and the mic button for dictating it (2).
  3. Click Apply instructions. Matic updates the whole note, including the Assessment & Plan.

Tip: Be specific. For example: "The patient is male, use he and him throughout", "Change 'continue lisinopril' to 'stop lisinopril' in the plan", or "Add that we ordered a lipid panel".

Magic Edit changes text only. To add, remove or change diagnosis codes, use the code chips. See Review and fix codes before you send.

Fill in missing doses

Doses Matic didn't hear show as amber chips, such as ***.

  1. Click the chip.

  2. Type the dose, route and frequency, or just the missing part (for example "40").

  3. Click Save. If Matic suggested a dose, click ✓ to accept it.

An amber dose chip in the plan showing a dose Matic suggested, with the check mark that accepts it.

If you send with a dose still blank, the medication goes to athena without it.

Regenerate the note

To rewrite the note with a different template, or after recording more:

  1. Go to the Prep tab. Optionally change the template in Visit settings.

The Visit settings menu on the Prep tab, with the template choices highlighted.
  2. Click Finalize, then confirm Regenerate.

The Prep tab header with Visit settings (1) and Finalize (2) highlighted.
Clicking Finalize again on a visit that has a note: Matic asks Regenerate the whole note? before replacing the note, its codes and your edits.

Important: Regenerating replaces the current note, its codes and your edits. Before a big change, use Copy current document in the toolbar to keep a copy.

The Copy current document button in the toolbar, next to Magic Edit.

Troubleshooting

A medication says "continue" when I said "stop", or a drug name is wrong

Fix it with the pencil or Magic Edit. If Matic keeps mishearing a name, add it in Settings → Lexicon.

The Lexicon tab in Settings, where you add terms and names Matic keeps getting wrong.

The wrong pronouns or gender

Use Magic Edit: "The patient is [male/female]. Correct the pronouns in every section." Check the Assessment & Plan too.

Something is documented that didn't happen

Delete it with the pencil, or use Magic Edit, for example "Remove the EKG. It was not done."

Magic Edit didn't make my change

Name the section and the exact words to change, or edit the section directly.

The pencil is greyed out or missing

It's greyed out while the note is still generating or another section is open for editing. It disappears while the note is being sent and once it's sent: sent notes are locked, and the bar shows Sent.

The note stops before the end of the visit

Check the Transcription at the bottom of the note. If audio is missing, record the rest or upload it, then regenerate from Prep.
