After your note is generated, Matic suggests diagnosis (ICD-10) and visit (CPT) codes from what was documented. Review them on the Note tab before you send. Nothing reaches athena until you click Send to Athena.
Note: Matic suggests codes, but it doesn't replace your clinical and coding judgment. Review every code before you send.
Where the codes are
Each problem in the Assessment & plan shows its diagnosis code chips.
The bar at the bottom shows the claim lines (CPT) to the left of ← CPT | ICD →. The + to its right adds a diagnosis.
Click a code chip to see why Matic chose it.
Remove a code you didn't address
Click the code chip on the problem card.
Choose Remove from claim.
If Matic asks for a reason, choose Not addressed today, Wrong diagnosis or Documentation pending. The code moves to Excluded.
To remove the whole problem from the note, click the trash icon on its card.
Add a missing diagnosis
In the bottom bar, click + to the right of ICD →.
Search in Search ICD-10 codes… and pick the code.
Matic adds it to the note with its own Assessment & Plan box and attaches it to the visit line. Click Undo if you picked the wrong one.
Replace a code or make it more specific
Click the chip, then use Replace — search codes…, or choose from the specificity options the documentation supports. To make a code the primary diagnosis, choose Mark primary.
Codes that aren't on the claim
An amber not on claim tag means Matic documented the code but held it back from the claim. Click it to see why, for example "Not in the Assessment & Plan for this visit". Then choose Accept for today's claim, Remove, or the suggested fix, such as Document assessment.
Check the visit level and modifiers
Click a claim line in the bottom bar, for example "99214 · 3 dx".
Check the Visit level. Use Modifier → Change to add a modifier, such as 25, or 93 for an audio-only visit.
Tick the Diagnoses associated with the line. athena takes 4 per line: on the visit line you can tick more, and the 4 outlined ones are sent while the rest stay in the note. Other lines take up to 4.
Suggested codes such as G2211 appear as dashed chips labelled + Add. Click Add to put one on the claim, or × to dismiss it.
Tip: Before you send, check Needs you in the bottom bar, if it shows. It counts questions Matic wants you to answer and problems with no supporting documentation in today's note.
Troubleshooting
A diagnosis appears that was never discussed
Click the chip, choose Remove from claim and then Not addressed today. Tell Mat through Support in the top bar so we can improve suggestions.
"These diagnoses cannot be sent together"
Two codes conflict, for example I10 with I11–I13. Remove one of them.
"Up to 4 per line — turn one off first"
Untick a diagnosis on that claim line.
"A billed line needs at least one diagnosis"
Tick at least one diagnosis for the line, or remove the line.
G2211 or modifier 25 shows in Matic but not in athena
After sending, check the claim in athena and add it there if needed. We're working on this.
The code buttons are greyed out
A text edit is still open in the note. Save or cancel it, then change codes.
FAQs
Can I tell Matic which code to use during the visit?
Saying a code out loud isn't guaranteed to be used. After the note is generated, use Replace — search codes… to set the exact code.
Does Magic Edit change codes?
No. Magic Edit changes note text only. Use the code chips and + buttons for codes.
