Send your note to athena

3-min read · Send your finished note and codes to athena, understand Sent and Partly sent, and fix sends that don't go through.

Written by Bryce Blackwell

When your note and codes are ready, send them to athena from the Note tab. Matic puts the note sections into the athena encounter and sends the codes unsigned, so you can review and sign them there.

Before you send

  • The patient is checked in, so the visit has an athena encounter. Telehealth and audio-only visits get one when the visit is started in athenaNet.

  • The note has finished generating, and no text edit is still open.

  • You've reviewed the codes. See Review and fix codes before you send.

Send the note

  1. On the Note tab, click Send to Athena at the bottom right.

  2. If Matic needs a decision first, a review window opens. It lists anything held back from the claim, such as lines Held — needs a diagnosis. Check them, then click Send to Athena again, or Send anyway.

Send to Athena: the review window Matic opens when it needs a decision first (or, when nothing needed review, the Sent to Athena summary).
  3. When athena confirms, you'll see Sent to Athena with a summary of what was sent. Click Open in Athena to check it there.

Open in Athena next to the locked Sent button, after the note has been sent.

Tip: If athena doesn't show the new note straight away, right-click the encounter page in athena and choose Reload frame. Then check the billing tab, and sign and close the note.

If only part of the note was sent

Partly sent — review means athena didn't confirm every item, so the chart is incomplete until those items are resent.

  1. Click Review & retry.

  2. Choose Retry failed sections, Resend whole note or Resend note and codes.

  3. Check the encounter in athena afterwards.
