Your template decides how Matic writes your note. Pick one for each visit, keep your favorites at the top, or build your own, including the instructions that shape your Assessment & Plan.
Choose a template for a visit
Open the visit. On the Prep tab, open Visit settings.
Under Template, choose one of your templates or a built-in one, such as Founder's Template, Narrative, Problem-oriented or Medicare Annual Wellness Visit.
The label changes to Chosen for this visit.
Note: There's no separate default-template setting. Matic remembers what you pick. After you choose a template for a follow-up, it's suggested for your next follow-ups as Your usual for follow-ups. Wellness visits get a wellness template suggested.
Put your favorites first
Go to Settings → Templates → Note templates.
On All Templates, click the star next to a template. You can have up to 10 favorites.
On the Favorites tab, drag to reorder, or use Move up and Move down. Favorites appear first when you choose a template.
Create your own template
Important: Creating templates is turned off by default. To turn it on, go to Settings → Advanced → Templates Access and switch off Restrict to approved templates only. If your organization manages templates, your admin may keep this on.
On the Templates page, click New Template.
Enter a Template Name and Description.
Drag sections in from Available Sections, or click Add Custom Section.
For each section, set the Section Header and its Content Segments. Instructions tell Matic what to write; Verbatim Text appears exactly as you type it.
Click Preview to check it, then click Save.
If you're asked Map to EHR?, choose Map Now so each section lands in the right athena field.
Get a fuller Assessment & Plan
Matic follows your Assessment & Plan section's Instructions closely. Short or vague instructions give a short A/P.
Be explicit. For example: "For each diagnosis, write a paragraph with current status, supporting findings from today's visit and the plan, then a bulleted plan with medication dose, route and frequency."
Set the layout. "Number each problem" (the default) or "Bullet each problem".
Set the order. For example, "Order by clinical importance".
Name the section correctly. The heading must contain "Assessment", or be exactly "Plan" or "A/P". A section named "Impression" is treated as ordinary note text.
Tip: Seeing *** for doses? The standard instructions tell Matic to write *** when a dose wasn't stated. Fill them in on the Note tab, say the dose during the visit, or change that instruction in your template.
Troubleshooting
There's no New Template button
Template creation is restricted. Switch off Restrict to approved templates only in Settings → Advanced, or ask your admin.
"Maximum of 10 favorites"
Unstar a template before adding another.
"Map to Athena? This template isn't mapped yet…"
Choose Map now so sections go to the right athena fields, or Generate anyway and paste the note in manually.
The wrong template was picked automatically
Change it in Visit settings. Matic remembers your choice for that kind of visit.
My notes got shorter after an update
The A/P now follows your template's instructions closely. Expand them as described above.
